Nowadays, obesity is a problem that troubles tens of millions of people worldwide. According to data from World Health Organization there are 300 millions of obese in the world, and a third of them live in developed countries. There is a time that obesity become a problem of public health, mainly on United States, where this overweight became some kind of epidemic. So much that it reached the milestone of more than 100.000 surgeries against morbid obesity in this country. The official figures are alarming: it is estimated that over 60% of Americans suffer from obesity or overweight, according to a Gallup research in 2011.
With the proliferation of snack bars, fast-foods, fatty foods, a massive propaganda in the media, along with physical inactivity, obesity in the last decades has become a chronic problem in the United States and in the world. Morbid obesity is a term coined to describe a more severe type of obesity that is associated with the acquisition of a number of diseases that can cause a person to death in a longer or shorter period.
Obesity or morbid obesity are associated with health problems like hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular problems, high cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, cancer, CVA, strokes, etc. This clearly shows how economic prosperity doesn’t mean a good nutrition. The richest country in the world is what suffers most from obesities diseases.
Given that so many people around the world experience this health problem, it’s very important to talk about this issue from the perspective of Past Life Therapy. The therapists of regression are researching the karmic mechanisms that make some people to show excessive weight gain. Why some people born predisposed to gain weight while others are able to effortlessly maintain weight within a condition conducive to health?
On the other hand, what would be the basic cause of the compulsion that some people have to eat excessively? All of this has an explanation in our past lives, that make part of our incarnate history and its origins can be found and remedied through a conscious recollection of past life therapy.
Many people have difficulty recognizing it, but is right that food can also become a serious vicious, like alcohol and cigarettes. Some people even claim to have a greater obstacle to drop a life of excess food than they had to stop smoking or drinking. The animals are feed by necessity, but men eat more for pleasure than for necessity to nourish the body. The food became an emotional issue, something that is determinate by the complex conditions of life that we are experiencing at any given time.
Food also has a character of social life. When we go to parties, meetings, events, etc, food is always there. It seems that the human being is almost invariably associated with the feast and the joy of a moment with the food. All of this is being internalized in his unconscious for centuries, and nowadays some people can’t even imagine their life and identity without the pleasures of food. The player can do an experience being one or two days without food. Hungry will be present, but maybe the most is despite the desire for food flavors. So, it is clear that the nutrition became a way of life, a personal style that is too tied to our identity. With life we are having nowadays, an hour of lunch represents a short break where we can appreciate few minutes of tranquility. All of this associate food to rest, relaxation and peace we desire. On the other hand, the human being who has only 20 or 30 minutes daily for lunch, before returning to work, tends to seek an unhealthy nutrition, and eat some kind of snack at the snack bars not to be late for the work.
The most common causes of obesity whose origin is in our past incarnations can be exemplified on the basis of our relationship with the food in the past time, and the trauma we suffered. There are three general causes to past lives obesity:
Lives of excess: These are past circumstances in which a person immersed in the pleasures of food. Lives of people who used to be rich or occupied a privileged place in society. On account of a life wealthy, where they could afford the luxury, they ate very much. In many ancient cultures, the obesity was a sign of health, social status and good fortune. Contrary to what occurs today, the women in Greece, for example, did everything to become plumper, because femininity was associated to fat, which brought an idea of prosperity, strength, abundance, opulence and sensuality. Without scientific researches which indicate a series of health problems, the custom in many cultures was eating the best they could, to maintain a body fat and well nourished. A life lived in this terms can generate a strong attachment to the pleasures of food. On the other hand, the excess of nutrition was also characterized as an escape from the difficulties faced in other areas of life, such as emotional deprivation, sexual dissatisfaction, loneliness, isolation, impotence, as occurs in the present days. For example, a wife of a rich man in ancient Rome was unhappy with her marriage. As her husband was very busy, she would have much free time. She didn’t have much fun, so she could enjoy the abundant food that her husband could bring. This excess can generate an attachment that can pass from one life to another and become a compulsion in the present life.
Death for food: One of the most common causes of obesity in the present life is the death for food, after long periods of scarcity. This is common after a war, where people no longer have access to basic food and many die after some time. Collective disasters can also be the cause of scarcity. Many are the circumstances which can cause collective or individual hunger. Death occurring as the result of hunger can make someone incorporate and want to eat at all costs. A person can associate food with preservation of his life, and believe that will die without it. Unconsciously, can store it and live accordingly.
Food shortage: The shortage of food can become a compulsion in the present life. Die for food is different to live without it throughout the life. It is as if, unconsciously, we can make in this life what we couldn’t in the past lives. Sometimes the shortage of food can generate anger in a person. Denise Linn says that in a regression she saw her in a nomadic tribe that had a rigid hierarchy of distribution of food. She said: “We were a nomadic tribe, always moving in search of food. In the winter was not enough. And when we had, there was a hierarchy. The elderly men ate first, then the boss and the warriors, finally younger women and children. As I was old and disabled, I was usually the last to eat and I slept hungry. I saw how this past experience sparked a pattern in the present Day. During meals in my life today, whenever there was a collective dish rather than individual portions, I felt an intense panic. I was afraid of having not enough to eat, and when I was served, ate voraciously – even I wasn’t hungry”
Sexual abuse or rape: Some people can be surprised with this fact, but researches indicate that childhood sexual abuse or rape in past lives can be the cause of obesity and binge eating. An abuse or a rape is a strong invasion of our body, our intimacy and our mind. When a woman is raped she is subjected to a very strong emotion and this whirlwind of feelings may cause a rupture in their sense of identity. This situation can generate dissatisfaction with our unconscious body, as it was aggressively violated. Some people, not to feel all the burden of rape, may wish to eat at all costs in order to alleviate the great repulsion of this experience. On the other hand, a rape can be a tough blow to our self-esteem, and we stop worrying about our body, getting a lot of extra pounds. But there is a deeper issue involving the rape: a person can be so afraid to get abused again, unconsciously try to become a less attractive. The beauty is associate with the rape, becoming something heavy, a burden that should be avoided. Although it seems unlikely, there is evidence that this process really occurs. The women blame themselves unconsciously for beauty. It can be one of the causes of obesity. This is also applies to sexual abuse or rape in past lives.
Misuse of beauty and sexuality: When people do misuse of beauty or sexuality in past lives, they may have to reborn with some esthetic limitations. These can be ugliness, some physical malformations, deformations and also obesity. None of this is punitive, the soul may have decided to born with these restrictions to learn to value the inner beauty of a person, too. Thus, men and women who misuse the beauty and sexuality can choose an incarnation this way, in order of focus in things so much important to their spiritual development.
